ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a neurological disorder where the brain does not make or properly regulate the chemicals it needs to function at its best. This disorder affects many areas of one's life and can change presentation with age and hormonal changes that come with aging.

No, you do not have to be officially diagnosed with ADHD to receive life coaching.

You absolutely do not have to be on ADHD medications in order to receive ADHD Life Coaching. Medicine is not the right fit for everyone. Finding systems that work for the client where they are in life, is what Life Coaching is all about. Also, never underestimate what the power of a good night of rest and a healthy diet can do for the brain.

There is a network of ADHD Life Coaches in the country and around the world that we can refer you to if you need to find something more affordable. There will be opportunities for Pro-bono coaching, but these opportunities will be selected as space is available, and may be slightly different than the packages listed on the website. In the future, there may be opportunities for group coaching as well which would decrease the cost to the individual. Once we are able to offer this solution we will put out information on that.

No, at this time Abilene ADHD is unable to diagnose or prescribe medications. We can, however, recommend doctors who do.

The governing body of Life Coaches is the International Coaching Federation (ICF) which requires coaches to show knowledge and understanding of a code of ethics and a set of skills and competencies. It is a process in which the client is viewed as creative, resourceful, and whole. The point of life coaching is to help the client gain deeper self-awareness and begin understanding how to use their strengths to find success. An ADHD Life Coach has extra training and understanding of ADHD and life implications and common barriers they face to achieving their goals. 

The most effective treatment is one that works for everyone involved and positively impacts the client the most. Research has shown that ADHD medications combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Life Coaching are most effective.

An ADHD Life CANNOT diagnose or prescribe medications, ever. However, it is perfectly acceptable to discuss diagnosis and medicines with your ADHD Life Coach if you have questions, need more information on something, or want advice on what/how to discuss these things with your doctor. 

We allow the client (including children) to dictate the direction of the coaching, and this includes them having a say on who they want to be in the room. Each individual under 18 will sign a form allowing anyone of their choice to sit in on coaching sessions. This is not intended as a way to keep information from parents but as an opportunity to reinforce with the client that they are in control and will be heard. If a student chooses to have someone with them during coaching, we will ask that they try not to interfere with the process as much as possible.
